Occupational Services

Boat Hull Inspection and Cleaning Services

For Privately Owned Boats, Yachts, Sailboats, Fishing Boats, Etc.

Pinnacle Diving Company can provide you with detailed underwater hull inspection and cleaning services for small to medium sized boats either pier-side or afloat. Additionally, we also perform Calls to Aid for propeller disentanglements, search and recovery of lost items, light underwater maintenance and installations, and more.

Video and Photographic Documentation

All inspection services include detailed photographic imagery of hull surfaces, grates, ports, anodes, counter weights, shafts, screws (props), rudder, and more, and HD video of inspections is available upon request.

Hull Cleaning and Propeller Polishing

Hull cleaning and propeller polishing can be done fast and efficiently by hand or using our underwater drills and cleaning brushes, which are safe for all types of hull surfaces. We strongly promote environmentally friendly practices, and therefore, will use the least environmentally impactful method required.

Rates and Fees

Basic rates are dependent on the condition of the hull and other surfaces, and fees include expendable item use and facility fees, etc., if applicable. Additionally, if you request cleaning services on the day of inspection, the inspection will be completed for free.

Detailed Reports

Regardless of whether performing only an inspection, or if we perform cleaning work, we will provide a written report, complete with summary of findings, work performed, recommendations, and all images, for documentation purposes.

Efficient, Safe, and Environmentally Friendly

PDC is capable of offering vessel owners:

  • Detailed underwater hull inspections, surveys, damage assessments, and condition reports,
  • Underwater photography and videography documentary services,
  • Underwater hull cleaning operations,
  • Propeller Polishing services
  • Propeller disentanglement (fowled prop),
  • Search and Recovery and Light Salvage of lost or overboard items,
  • Limited installations and maintenance.

Rates are broken down as follows:

  • Underwater inspections: ¥500 JPY per foot (However, inspections are free if cleaning work is performed on the same day).
  • Basic hull cleaning rate: ¥1,000 JPY per foot.
  • Barnacle and embedded growth rate: If present, ¥500 JPY per foot will be added to the basic rate.
  • Excessive growth rate (5cm thickness overall, or 10cm thickness within m2): Double combined basic rate.
  • Propeller Cleaning is INCLUDED within our Hull Cleaning rate (cleaning involves simply removing biofouling growth).
  • Propeller Polishing services are NOT included in the Hull Cleaning rate, and we charge ¥500 JPY per square inch for Propeller Polishing (polishing involves removing all rust and corrosion, and making the propeller smooth and shiny again).
  • Administrative Fees are included at no extra cost: File Maintenance fee and Payment Processing fee.
  • Tax: VAT will be added.
  • Additional Rates: If work is performed out at sea (afloat), a Boat Usage fee will be added, and if work is performed outside of our local service area, travel and per-diem rates will be added.

If our services are requested, we will travel to your location (saving you money on transportation costs), and perform the work by diving underwater (saving you even more by not needing to have the boat pulled out of the water).

If your location is within our local service area (Kanagawa and Tokyo - Bay Area), there will be no additional charge for travel.

If your location is beyond our service area, we are more than happy to travel to you, and are willing to provide our services across Japan, however, please understand that travel and per-diem rates will be added.

To preserve the lifetime of your boat and reduce maintenance costs, it is highly recommended to have the hull, prop, shaft, counterweight, rudder, and all below waterline surfaces cleaned at least once a month.

Professionalism

Condition reports are included with our inspection and cleaning services for free, and our divers each maintain full certifications, training, and experience for the work being performed, all equipment necessary to perform diving operations safely and efficiently, and full professional liability insurance with coverage.

How does the process work?

  • To start, please fill out the form at the bottom of this page.
  • We will respond by email within one business day (not including weekends or holidays) to arrange a date to meet you at your location.
  • We will conduct a dive and perform an inspection of your boat's hull underwater, and take photos of the hull as a part of the inspection (we believe in full transparency, you have a right to know and see the condition of your boat below the surface).
  • If you decide you DO NOT want us to perform a cleaning, that is ok! We will charge you only for the inspection service, and we will write a free inspection report on the condition of the hull, including photos from the inspection, and email it to you for your records.
  • If you DO want us to perform cleaning services, we will offer you a price quote based on the inspection findings.
  • If you agree to the quote, we will clean your boat's hull thoroughly, safely, and efficiently, either the same day or at a convenient future date, then take additional photos to document the completed hull condition, and finally send you a free hull condition report (complete with all photos) for your records within one or two business days after the work is completed.
  • Payments for services are completed online by card for your convenience via our secure electronic payment processing system.
