Divers Alert Network (DAN) offers several first aid courses tailored to divers, with specific programs for recreational and professional divers. Individuals taking these courses do not need to be divers, however. The courses provide emergency first response training suitable for all individuals, regardless of occupation or career field, from teachers to machinery workers, from office staff to retirees, and everyone in between.
The BLS courses expands Health-Care Provider curriculum requirements with First Aid skills, and includes two-rescuer CPR for adults, children, and infants, aligning with the International Liaison Committee on Resuscitation (ILCOR) and American Heart Association (AHA) guidelines.
The Diving First Aid course (formerly the Diving First Aid for Professional Divers (DFA Pro) course) integrates content from multiple core modules, including CPR Health-Care Provider (HCP), Emergency Oxygen for Scuba Diving Injuries, Neurological Assessment, First Aid for Hazardous Marine Life Injuries, and bloodborne pathogens. It is designed for commercial divers, professional divers, scientific divers, and aquarium staff and volunteers, and provides comprehensive training for high-risk diving environments.
These courses meet the Guidelines for Resuscitation and Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) standards, and are approved by the U.S. Coast Guard to meet training requirements for Captain and Mate licenses.
Whether it’s being on the scene of an accident or witnessing a medical emergency, most people will be involved in a crisis at some point in their lives. First aid training and incident management skills empower people to step up and take action should these situations arise. Developed by dive medicine physicians and diving educators, DAN’s courses are easy to understand and designed to provide you with the skills and confidence you need to respond in emergencies. DAN first aid courses prepare people to manage injuries related to scuba diving, but are equally suited to those that occur in other settings as well. All courses meet current ILCOR and AHA guidelines. Isn’t it worth it to learn skills that could save a life?
The Basic Life Support: CPR and First Aid course is designed to teach the knowledge and skills needed to provide basic life support (BLS) -- which includes: cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR - including both one and two person CPR), AED use, and First Aid -- to adult patients with life-threatening injuries, while also activating emergency medical services (EMS). The first- aid section teaches participants how to recognize medical emergencies and traumatic injuries, and to provide care while waiting for EMS to arrive.
This course is NOT only for "divers", and is intended for ANYONE who might need to perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), and/or may need CPR/BLS certification for professional requirements.
This course meets or exceeds AHA, ILCOR, and OSHA, guidelines for CPR and Emergency Cardiovascular Care.

The Diving First Aid for Professional Divers provider (DFA-Pro) course is designed to teach the knowledge and skills needed to provide the full range of emergency first response care that may be required for divers in an occupational dive setting. The sequencing of topics follows a “most likely” scenario to more urgent care, with secondary care covered in the latter part of the course. The DFA-Pro can also be offered in sections or as a continuous course, and includes: Basic Life Support (BLS), Emergency Oxygen Provider (EO2), Hazardous Marine Life Injuries (HMLI), and Neurological Assessment Provider (Neuro) courses all in one.
This course is intended for Professional Divers who need the DFA-Pro certification for professional requirements. However, this course may be offered any time after a student completes both BLS and O2, as well as along side of the NAUI Rescue Diver certification course.
This course meets or exceeds AHA, ILCOR, and OSHA, guidelines for CPR and Emergency Cardiovascular Care.
