Refresher Training
Why is Refresher Training important, and how does it maintain standards?
Pinnacle Diving Company Refresher Training sessions are given at the level of the diver's certification, and designed to identify skill degradation and/or behavioral deviations, reinforce current standards, and aid individual certified divers in knowledge and skills development through mentorship.
Ask yourself these questions:
- Were you certified years ago and haven't been diving since, but now desire to get back in the water?
- Or have you simply not been able to dive in the last 12 calendar months?
- Or maybe you haven't used a set of skills or done a particular type of diving in a while?
- Or perhaps you're at that "100 dive" / "100 hour" milestone and think you got it all down! :D
If you answered "yes" to any of these questions, then you are in need of a refresher.
Diving KSA's are perishable. That means, if you don't use them, you lose them. Especially for new divers and those still in the early stages of development. Many new divers take their OW course and don't dive again for a year or more, effectively losing all that new knowledge and those new skills they just learned. Still others may have had life events that prevented them from diving over a long period of time. Either way, the knowledge and skills are reduced or lost all-together.
Behavioral Deviation happens undetected. Diving skills can and will deviate and change into something else slowly over time, and you won't even realize it. Without a reference, pre-dive checks become shorter, steps begin to get missed, and even deviant behaviors slowly to surface as divers begin to push boundaries. As we grow more confident with our skills, especially early on in our diving careers, we begin to miss things, and our confidence can outpace our actual skill level. It's like looking in the mirror every day; you don't notice the changes until it's too late.
What is the intent?
The intent of refresher training is to address concerns, evaluate KSA's, bring a diver up speed, realign them with standards, and get them safely back in the water.
PDC's Refresher training is tailored to meet your needs at your level of diving. Our training will reenforce basics, challenge you to grow a bit, and will certify you safe to get back in the water without supervision.
Note: All divers who have not conducted an open water dive within 12 calendar months should take a refresher course to maintain currency.
Refresher Courses Offered
Recreational SCUBA Diver Refresher
This is a refresher program for recreational divers taught at their certification level. It starts with a knowledge assessment, then a diving skills assessment, before moving on to core skills practice, and then targeted skills improvement. This refresher training can be a single day or multi-day, and will culminate when a diver can adequately perform to their level.
Instructor Rate: ¥25,000 JPY (1 Person) - ¥15,000 JPY (2 or more) / per day
Does not include the cost of dives.
Specialty Diver Refresher
This is a refresher program intended to target specific specialties, such as drysuit, altitude, or recreational sidemount diving. It starts with a knowledge assessment, then a diving skills assessment, before moving on to core skills practice, and then targeted skills improvement. This refresher training can be a single day or multi-day, and will culminate when a diver can adequately perform to their level.
Instructor Rate: ¥25,000 JPY / diver / per day
Does not include the cost of dives.
Technical Diver Refresher
This is a refresher program intended for OC technical divers who haven't used technical skills in a while. It starts with a knowledge assessment, then a diving skills assessment, before moving on to dry core skills practice, then in-water core skills practice, and finally, targeted skills improvement. This refresher training can be a single day or multi-day, and will culminate when a diver can adequately perform to their level.
Instructor Rate: ¥35,000 JPY / diver / per day
Does not include the cost of gas or dives.
Rebreather Diver Refresher
This is a refresher program intended for CC rebreather divers who haven't used a rebreather for a while. It starts with a knowledge assessment, then a diving skills assessment, before moving on to dry core skills practice, then in-water core skills practice, and finally, targeted skills improvement. This refresher training can be a single day or multi-day, and will culminate when a diver can adequately perform to their level.
Instructor Rate: ¥35,000 JPY / diver / per day
Does not include the cost of expendable items or dives.
